The connected traveler in Paris - The Secret of effectiveness

The secret of a Connected traveler in Paris. Find out how to save time and money when you travel in Paris.

Travel in Paris: Find out how to improve your experience

When traveling overseas, the key to a successful holiday, as with everything in life, is preparation and time management. Find out about our key to enhance your travel experience in Paris.

But don’t get me wrong. When I say preparation, it doesn’t mean you have to be a control freak. That would be hopeless and a bit frustrating as you can’t control everything anyway. When traveling overseas for the first time and Especially in Paris, in a country where you don’t understand the language, it can be challenging trying to plan for everything that might happen to you. But it’s ok. Keep calm and relax!

What I actually call preparation, is nothing more than your typical homework whenever considering travelling abroad. Get online and do some research on the place you will be staying. For instance, search for reviews, not only about the hotel or apartment, but the neighborhood as well. Make yourself comfortable with your hotel location by virtually walking around the neighborhood using Google Street View. It always helps to have a mental representation of the area you will be staying beforehand.

Transportation in Paris

Transportation is also something that you should prepare for before your arrival. Don’t wait until you get in front of a French-only speaking information officer to understand how to get around Paris. It is not that hard. But guess what? You have to prepare! Most of the information you need, you can find it on the website of the RATP which is the public transportation network serving Paris. There, you will find information on travel passes and fares. But more important, you will find a map of the Parisian Metro network which can be overwhelming at first look. I highly recommend that you spend some time learning the ground rules. This way, you will save some precious time while in Paris.

Speaking of time… Time management is also a key to success when it comes to travel. You want to make the most of it, when travelling overseas. However, at times, it can be challenging to visit all the places you have planned, considering the fact that you sometimes under estimate the time a particular attraction will take. Worst case scenario, you get lost in the city trying to find your way with an ‘old school’ paper map or a navigation apps that has stopped working at the worst time.

Leverage technology to save time

In this day and age, travelers rely more and more on technology to save time. They use all kinds of apps and services to maximize their experience – from booking a hotel online, to getting tips and reviews about the different places they visit. Social networking is also a big concern of today’s travelers, who want to share their pictures and daily thoughts, as they progress through their journey. All of this, has been enabled with the rise of smartphones.

Smartphones have become the best time-saver for travelers. With the proper setup and a good selection of travel apps, you can spend more time exploring the city instead of searching for info.

But then you wonder, how do I get to use my favorite travel apps when I constantly have to hunt for internet access in Paris?

Here is the secret of highly effective travelers in Paris

You don’t hunt for internet access everywhere in Paris! Don’t even bother going to crowded places such as McDonalds or Starbucks… Instead, put wifi in your backpack using a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot that you can take with you anywhere.
